Clare Novice Races If you haven't rowed or coxed before, you'll be taught how to row in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with other people of similar abilities.

Novicing is a well-structured programme, covering all the basics of rowing and giving you all the tools you need to progress as far as you wish to take it - some of you will only ever want to row with your friends, and have a laugh, others will want their place in the 1st VIII.

We mainly row in VIIIs - the main type of boat used for the competitions on the Cam. These are stable, fun and hopefully fast!

The main novicing term is Michaelmas but everyone will be given a chance to learn to row at any time during the year. If you would like more information, please email the Lower Boats Captains (LBCs) at lbcs(at)downingboatclub.co.uk and they'll be happy to answer your questions.
