Report by Rob Clarke (MC)
The first race against Caius M1 was well taken, it was good to see the boat come together after a relatively short period of training. After a competent start, we held our form well over the whole course and this was enough to put us ahead of Caius by a significant margin.

Unfortunately, in the second race we failed to replicate the form of the previous row and lost out to Caius after a fierce but messy push for the line. The Caius M2 crew went on to the final and will face Magdalene on Friday. More than anything, the result underscores the work still left to do to get us to where we want to be come Fairbairn's. It will demand a serious effort from the whole squad, but the week's results can only add impetus and determination to the training to come.

Report by Alex O'Leary
First, let me say that I am surely one of many college rowers who are perplexed by CUCBC's plan to hold the whole division in the space of two and a half hours, rather than a whole week. Anyway, onto the rowing...

Our first race, against what was effectively Clare II, saw us row off in serene conditions by November standards. We hit an incredibly scrappy 38 off the start and rhythmed down to a whippy 34 as we came round First Post Corner. The two crews remained level until we came into the Gut and Clare appeared to lose their rudder. The plan didn't change however, and we continued to row the course as we would have done, as Clare careered into the bank and remained out of sight until we were a few strokes from the close.

For the second race, the tactics were the same, save for a focus on rowing longer and more powerfully rather than just tapping it along.

Unfortunately, a second shoddy start and a soft first 500m saw a fresh Clare Hall crew eliminate half the gap between us. They continued moving up until we came round Ditton Corner and we suddenly found a decent rhythm. We were undeniably much quicker along the reach, but by the time we finally began moving, it was academic. Our focus now moves towards supporting M1 in their races and preparations for the Fairbairn Cup.
